Nicola Zonzini is an entry-level professional who raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup, a single-class open-wheel championship mixing amateur and semi-professional drivers with established professionals in the same grid. Zonzini's only indexed season came in 2007, when he started six rounds for Cram Competition.[1]
Zonzini finished 23rd in the championship standings across the full season. His career record places him among the lower reaches of the field, as he regularly finished behind established professionals including the 2013 GP2 champion Fabio Leimer and the 2016 WEC LMP2 champion Stéphane Richelmi, both regular opponents in that season. He did record two finishes ahead of drivers who went on to much stronger careers: he beat Daniel Ricciardo, who became an elite professional and Formula 1 driver, once across their encounters, and finished ahead of Jules Bianchi, the 2009 Formula 3 Euro Series champion, in one race.[2]
