Thomas Wieringa is a semi-professional driver whose rating of 3,348 places him in the competitive amateur band; he raced at the entry end of professional single-seater competition. His career consists of a single season in the Star Mazda Championship in 2006, where he started six races for Eurosports Racing without reaching the podium. He finished 34th in the championship, averaging a grid position of P24.4 across his starts, which reflects consistent difficulty against the field.[1]

Wieringa struggled against established rivals throughout the season. He lost head-to-head records to the 2006 Star Mazda champion Adrian Carrio and to mid-field professionals Ryan Justice and Gerardo Bonilla in repeated encounters. He finished behind John Pew, an FIA Silver graded driver, in three of five shared races, and behind Mike Potekhen, a semi-professional of comparable rating, in four of five shared races. His results against the field's upper tier were sparse; he finished ahead of Potekhen once and passed John Pew twice across the season, but these isolated results do not indicate competitive parity with those drivers.

Wieringa retired from racing after 2006 and has not returned to competition. His single season of racing appears to have demonstrated that the top level of the Star Mazda Championship was beyond his reach, and he did not pursue a longer career in motorsport.
