Anthony Downs was an entry-level professional who raced single-seater formula cars in the Star Mazda Championship, a national amateur-to-professional series in the United States. He competed for two seasons from 2002 to 2003, accumulating six starts across that span before retiring from the indexed record.[1]
Downs finished nineteenth in the 2003 Star Mazda Championship standings. During his time in the series he raced regularly against established and professional-level competitors including Michael McDowell, who went on to become the 2004 Star Mazda champion and later raced extensively in NASCAR, and Luis Schiavo, who won the 2003 Star Mazda title. Downs typically finished behind both drivers in head-to-head meetings. He recorded individual victories over professional competitors Ryan Justice and the championship-winning Schiavo, each once across his career.[2]
