His career consisted of five starts in the 2002 Star Mazda Championship, a national-level single-seater series. He finished on average in 18th place across his races, with no wins or podium finishes.[1]
Throughout his five rounds in Star Mazda, Willman raced against a field of drivers of broadly similar standing to himself. He finished behind Moses Smith, the 2002 Star Mazda champion, in four of five shared races, and behind Tim Jennings in all five. He held a more competitive record against other drivers in the field; he finished ahead of John Olsen in three of five races, and recorded single victories over Justin Pruskowski, John Mefford, and Joe Pruskowski. On one occasion he finished ahead of Scott Speed, who would go on to become a much stronger driver and earn Platinum grading in international formula racing, though this was an isolated result within Speed's broader trajectory. Willman has been retired since the end of 2002.
