Dick Rathmann was an American racing driver who competed in Formula 1 during the 1950s. His career on the single-seater circuit spanned from 1950 to 1960, comprising five starts across that decade, all piloted for the Watson team. He did not score points or finish on the podium during his Formula 1 tenure. His average finishing position across classified results was 18th, reflecting the competitive difficulty of the era and the strength of the grids he entered.[1]

The calibre of opposition Rathmann encountered was high; he shared grids with multiple professional drivers of established standing, including Eddie Johnson, Jimmy Bryan, Bob Veith, and Bob Sweikert, all of whom held Racer Ratings in the 4,850 to 4,900 range. On isolated occasions Rathmann finished ahead of each of these competitors, demonstrating he could run competitively within a professional field, though these remained single results rather than patterns of out-performance. His most recent recorded activity came in 1960, when he finished 28th in a single round of Formula 1 competition. Rathmann has since retired from active racing.[2]
