Dick Rathmann was an established professional racing driver competing in Formula 1 between 1950 and 1960. He made five starts in the championship, all for Watson, a team that fielded established and developing competitors across the era.[1]

Rathmann's Formula 1 career spanned a decade but produced minimal activity; his final season came in 1960, when he started one round and finished 14th in the championship standings. Over his five indexed starts he faced established professionals who were regular fixtures in the series, including Jim Rathmann and Tony Bettenhausen, both of whom typically finished ahead of him. He finished ahead of Bob Veith and Jimmy Bryan once each, both established professionals with significant Formula 1 experience of their own.[2]

Watson fielded him alongside Jim Rathmann, an established professional who remained the team's strongest driver across the period. The field Rathmann raced in mixed amateurs and semi-professionals with graded professionals in the same championship, typical of Formula 1 of that era. He sat in the lower order of competitors active in the series during his time.
