🇨🇭 Jo Siffert

Jo Siffert was a Swiss professional driver competing in Formula 1 as a single-seater competitor from 1962 to 1971, primarily for BRM and later Lotus-Ford. He scored 97 starts across a decade at the sport's highest level, racing in fields that mixed amateur and semi-professional entrants with established graded professionals.[1]

Siffert won two Formula 1 Grands Prix over his ten seasons and took six podiums in total. His best championship finish came in 1971, when he placed fourth in the Formula 1 standings, taking one win and two podiums from the eleven rounds that season. He was a regular opponent of Graham Hill, a three-time Formula 1 champion, and proved closely matched against him across their meetings. He also finished ahead of Jackie Stewart, who won three Formula 1 championships, on four occasions, and twice outfinished Jim Clark, a two-time champion.[2]

Siffert shared the Lotus-Ford with Jim Clark, an elite professional and the team's strongest driver across the index, in a 22-start spell that placed him among the machinery available to one of Formula 1's leading operations of the era. Against the established professionals who made up the regular grid, he held his own as a competitor at the professional level, his record of podiums and occasional victories sufficient to place him in the midfield of a championship dominated by the very strongest drivers of the decade.
