Jo Siffert was a Swiss Formula 1 driver who competed in the series from 1962 to 1971, amassing 97 starts across ten seasons. He recorded two wins and six podium finishes in that span, driving primarily for BRM. His average finishing position of seventh across all classified races placed him in the upper tier of a field that included multiple world champions; he shared grid time with Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Denny Hulme, Jack Brabham and John Surtees. Against these world-class rivals, Siffert struggled consistently in the head-to-head record, finishing behind them in the vast majority of shared races. He beat the two-time champion Jim Clark twice and the three-time champion Jackie Stewart four times, but those results were scattered among many more occasions when the stronger drivers prevailed.[1]

In his final season of 1971, Siffert took one win and two podiums across eleven rounds, finishing fourth in the championship, which represented the high point of his F1 career in terms of points and standing. He also raced for Lotus-Ford, the same team that fielded Jim Clark, one of the era's dominant drivers. Siffert's Racer Rating of 5,058 reflects his standing as a solid professional racer in one of motorsport's most competitive eras, though one consistently outpaced by the generation's elite. He retired from racing after 1971 and has since become known in motorsport history partly through the enduring recognition of his legacy among teams and manufacturers.[2]
