Peter Collins was a British single-seater racing driver who competed in Formula 1 from 1952 to 1958, driving primarily for Ferrari. An established professional, he accumulated 33 starts across seven seasons, taking three wins and nine podiums against a field that mixed amateurs, semi-professionals and graded drivers at the sport's highest level.[1]

Collins' record was built on consistency in the top tier of the era. His best season came in 1958, his final year, when he took a win and two podiums across seven rounds to finish fifth in the championship standings. He won three Grands Prix in total across his career. His regular rivals were Harry Schell and Jean Behra, both established professionals with extensive Formula 1 experience, and he was closely matched against both. He finished ahead of Juan Fangio, a five-time Formula 1 champion and elite professional, on one occasion, and beat Mike Hawthorn, the 1958 champion, three times over their shared years in the series.[2]

Collins drove for Ferrari, one of the dominant teams of the era fielding multiple drivers across his tenure. His record places him among the capable professionals of Formula 1's early years, a driver who could compete with and occasionally beat the championship contenders of his time but did not himself win a title. Beyond his single-seater career, he won the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race in 1958 with Ferrari.
