Mike Hawthorn was a British Formula 1 driver who competed from 1952 to 1958, accruing 46 starts with Ferrari across seven seasons. He won the World Drivers' Championship in 1958 after scoring three Grand Prix victories and 18 podium finishes overall. His average finish across classified races was third place, placing him in the upper tier of that competitive era; his Racer Rating of 5,537 positions him as a capable professional among peers of mixed standing. Over his career he regularly competed against Juan Fangio, the five-time champion, finishing ahead of him in six of their twenty shared races, and also beat Stirling Moss on six occasions from 16 encounters. Against lighter opposition he demonstrated clearer dominance, finishing ahead of drivers such as Harry Schell and Maurice Trintignant in the majority of their meetings.[1]

Hawthorn's championship year in 1958 was particularly strong; competing in ten rounds, he secured one victory and seven podium finishes to claim the title. His relationship with Ferrari spanned much of his career, with 35 of his 46 Formula 1 starts made in the Scuderia's colours. Away from single-seaters, he achieved distinction in endurance racing, winning both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1955 with Jaguar, accomplishments that marked him as a driver capable across different disciplines. He retired from Formula 1 after 1958 and has since passed away.[2]
