John Potter is a professional racing driver competing in national endurance racing in the United States. He races GT3 cars in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship for Magnus Racing, where he has been a regular since 2014. Potter holds a Bronze FIA grade in endurance racing, which places him among amateur and gentleman drivers in a field that includes full professionals.[1]

Over a career spanning 14 seasons from 2006 onwards, Potter has taken 13 podiums across 98 starts. His record is concentrated in IMSA WeatherTech, where he has competed in 92 races and claimed one win and 12 podiums. He began in PCA Club Racing in 2006 with a podium in Porsche club racing, and more recently made two starts in the IMSA Pilot Challenge in a GT4 car for Automatic Racing in 2023 and 2024.[2]

Potter has raced regularly against established professionals in a multiclass field. He has finished ahead of Kyle Kirkwood, an elite professional who won the 2021 Indy NXT Championship and has 86 IndyCar starts, on multiple occasions. He runs closely matched with Mario Farnbacher, a two-time IMSA WeatherTech GTD champion and Gold-graded professional, though usually finishes behind Bryan Sellers, also a two-time GTD champion and a more consistent threat in the same races. At Magnus Racing, Potter competes on a team that has campaigned two wins across the index with a roster that included Nicki Thiim, an established professional.
