Mario Hytten was an established professional racing driver competing in single-seater championships in the mid-1980s. He raced in Formula 3 Macau and International Formula 3000 for Ralt Racing Ltd and Murray Taylor Racing, driving open-wheel cars against fields mixing amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals. His racing career on record spanned from 1983 to 1988.[1]

Hytten made 25 starts across his indexed career, with one podium finish. He spent four seasons in International Formula 3000 between 1985 and 1988, accumulating 21 starts and finishing 24th in the 1988 championship standings. He appeared in Formula 3 Macau in 1983 and 1984 with four starts. His most notable result came against established professionals of the era; he finished ahead of Martin Brundle, then a future Formula 1 driver, on two occasions, and beat 1985 International Formula 3000 champion Christian Danner once.[2]

In his regular competition, Hytten typically finished behind Michel Ferté, a Bronze-graded professional with 35 Formula 3000 starts, though he proved closely matched against fellow regular Lamberto Leoni across their meetings in the series. His career represented a stint at professional single-seater racing during a period when the category drew established professionals from across motorsport's ladder.
