Sammy Smith is an established professional competing full-time in NASCAR Xfinity, where he drives the No. 8 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports. He holds an FIA Silver grade and carries a Racer Rating of 5,583. Smith races ovals primarily, with the majority of his Xfinity starts on oval tracks; he also competes part-time in NASCAR Truck and contested the IMSA Pilot Challenge in its GS class in 2025.[1]

Smith built his record in ARCA between 2021 and 2023, winning three championships across its three regional and national series. He took the ARCA Menards East in 2021 with EngineIce and followed with both the Menards East and full Menards Series titles in 2022 with TMC. Over those two seasons he accumulated eight wins and eleven podiums in the East, six wins and thirteen podiums in the national series, and one win in four starts in the West. His move to NASCAR Xfinity in 2022 overlapped his ARCA commitments; he has since made 131 Xfinity starts, taking three wins and sixteen podiums. A single Trans-Am TA2 start in 2022 yielded one podium.[2]

In Xfinity, Smith runs regularly against established professionals including Brandon Jones and Sam Mayer, a two-time ARCA Menards East champion and FIA Silver driver; he finishes closely matched with both. He has beaten elite professionals Ty Gibbs, a two-time national ARCA champion, on seven occasions and Christopher Bell, the 2017 Truck Series and 2024 Cup Series champion, twice. His primary team affiliation has been TMC, the operation fielded by Kyle Busch, though he has since joined JR Motorsports.
