🇮🇹 Mika Salo

Mika Salo is a retired established professional driver and former Formula 1 competitor who raced at the highest levels of single-seater and endurance motorsport across a 14-season career. Graded Silver by the FIA, he competed primarily in Formula 1 from 1994 to 2002, where he took two podium finishes across 111 starts for Toyota, and later moved into sportscar racing in the FIA GT Championship and WEC.[1]

His Formula 1 career spanned nine seasons with 111 starts, yielding two podiums and a regular position in the grid against established and elite professionals. He made 18 starts in the FIA GT Championship between 2004 and 2008 driving shared-car endurance races for AF Corse, where he won three races and took five podiums, a step up in success that mirrored a shift toward sportscar competition. Early in his career, Salo took three podiums across three starts in the Formula 3 Macau single-class championship in 1990. He returned to racing in 2014 with a single start each in IMSA WeatherTech and the WEC before retiring from competition.[2]

In the Formula 1 grid, Salo was closely matched with established professionals including Eddie Irvine, and finished ahead of elite-level drivers Mika Häkkinen on two occasions and Mark Webber four times across their careers. His sportscar work placed him in fields mixing amateurs through to graded professionals, where his endurance results and wins in the FIA GT Championship demonstrated a stronger level of performance than his Formula 1 podium count alone suggested.
