Formula Regional European is a single-seater sprint championship that began in 2019. It runs Tatuus cars and draws from the Italian and German Formula 4 series as well as karting championships. The field is predominantly entry-level professional, with a handful of early-career professionals among the ungraded drivers; Hiyu Yamakoshi, Taito Kato and Freddie Slater rank highest. The series functions as a stepping stone from national Formula 4 championships toward Formula 3 and Formula 2, and as a secondary route for drivers progressing from lower single-seaters and karting toward the international ladder. Its field is comparable to ADAC Formula 4 and weaker than Formula 3, which is the most common destination for drivers who graduate from this series.
