He contested the Formula Renault Eurocup from 2008 to 2009, driving for BVM Minardi Team across 12 starts and securing 1 podium finish. Smith subsequently progressed to the GP3 Series, where he raced for Addax Team over two seasons from 2010 to 2011, accumulating 28 starts with 3 podium results. Across his single-seater career, he recorded 40 total starts and 4 podiums without achieving a race victory.[1]
Smith's peak achievements in motorsport came through success in the British Formula Renault Championship, where he secured the 2009 championship title and earned the prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award that same year.
