Busnelli is a retired amateur endurance racing driver, graded FIA Bronze, who spent his career in shared-car GT racing. He drove for Ebimotors across three series spanning 2005 to 2022, piloting GT3 machinery in the Le Mans Cup and Road to Le Mans during his final years of competition.[1]
His record totalled 38 starts and three wins across the FIA GT Championship, Le Mans Cup, Road to Le Mans and IMSA WeatherTech's GTD class. Early in his career he raced the FIA GT Championship for three seasons from 2005. He returned to competition in 2017, taking two wins and five podiums across eight Le Mans Cup starts over six seasons, then added a win and two podiums from four Road to Le Mans entries in the same period. His most recent racing came in the 2022 Road to Le Mans season, where he took a win and a podium from two rounds.[2]
In the endurance fields where he competed, Busnelli regularly faced entry-level professionals including Andrea Piccini, an FIA Gold driver with 60 FIA GT Championship starts and continued success in Le Mans Cup and International Formula 3000, and Andrea Bertolini, a three-time FIA GT Championship winner with 84 starts in that series and extensive experience in GT World Challenge Europe and the World Endurance Championship. Busnelli typically finished behind both. He beat established professionals on occasion; he finished ahead of Maro Engel, an FIA Platinum driver and 2024 GT World Challenge Europe champion with 87 starts in that series, once across their meetings.
