Jimmy Simpson is a professional racing driver from Indianapolis who raced in single-class and multiclass open-wheel championships in the United States. He competed in Indy NXT, a national professional field, for three starts across 2013 and 2014 with Team Moore Racing. His most recent racing was in the SCCA Majors in 2023, where he competed in the FA class driving a winged Formula Atlantic open-wheel car.[1]
Simpson's indexed record spans a decade. His three Indy NXT starts came early in his career against established and professional-level opposition including Gabby Chaves, an IMSA Pilot Challenge champion with extensive experience in IndyCar and IMSA WeatherTech racing, and Juan Pablo García, both of whom he typically finished behind. Simpson won once against Luiz Razia, a driver with 61 GP2 Series starts, and once against Matthew Brabham, the 2013 Pro Mazda champion with 37 Indy NXT starts to his credit. His 2023 return to racing came in the SCCA Majors, where he won all four rounds he entered and took the FA class championship.[2]
Simpson raced in a multiclass field that mixed amateur and semi-professional entrants with graded professionals. His record in the regular company of stronger drivers, particularly Chaves and García in the Indy NXT rounds, places him as a professional-level competitor. His dominant 2023 season in the SCCA Majors, winning every race he started, marked a return to national competition after a nine-year absence from indexed racing.
