John Mayes is a competitive amateur, the lowest rung of the professional racing ladder where drivers compete in club and regional fields. His Racer Rating of 2,749 places him in that band; it reflects a driver at the beginning of a racing career or one whose results do not yet demonstrate consistent speed against established competition.[1]

Mayes' record consists of a single start in the 2006 Star Mazda Championship for Racers Edge Motorsports. He did not finish on the podium and crossed the line in 34th position. That one race remains the extent of his documented competitive history. In that solitary outing he finished ahead of several drivers with higher ratings, including Scott Jenkins, Gerardo Bonilla, Russell Walker, and Marc Arseneau; however, a single result against stronger competition in an otherwise empty record does not establish a pattern and should be weighed against the absence of any sustained campaign. Mayes is now retired from racing.
