Lance Willsey was an entry-level professional competing in American multiclass endurance and prototype racing on a Bronze FIA grading, which places him among amateur and gentleman drivers racing alongside professionals in these fields. He spent most of his career with Sean Creech Motorsport, a small operation that fielded him across IMSA's national championships from 2014 to 2024. He raced GT3 cars in the IMSA WeatherTech series, LMP3 prototypes in the IMSA Prototype Challenge and IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, and a Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo in 2020.[1]
Over eleven seasons and 61 starts, Willsey took eight wins and sixteen podiums. His most consistent period came in PCA Club Racing between 2015 and 2017, where he won six of eleven races and finished sixth in the 2017 championship. In IMSA WeatherTech he managed one win and four podiums across 21 starts; in the Prototype Challenge he took one win and two podiums from 19 starts. His last indexed racing came in 2017 in club competition. He retired from active competition in 2024.[2]
Willsey raced regularly against professional opponents in multiclass fields that included Gold-graded drivers and former champions. Matthew Bell, a 2020 IMSA Prototype Challenge LMP3 champion and established professional, was among the drivers he competed against most often, though Willsey typically finished behind him. Against the strongest drivers he ever raced, Willsey finished ahead of Felix Rosenqvist, an established professional and 2015 FIA Formula 3 European champion with 132 IndyCar starts, and Brendon Hartley, a Platinum-graded professional and three-time WEC champion including the 2016 LMP1 title and 2023 HYPERCAR championship.
