Lyn St. James was an established professional racing driver competing in IndyCar, the premier North American single-seater championship. She drove exclusively on oval circuits for Dick Simon Racing between 1996 and 2000, taking five starts in the series across those years.[1]

St. James finished 24th in the IndyCar championship standings in her final season, 2000. She raced primarily against established professionals including Buzz Calkins and Stéphane Grégoire; she was closely matched with Grégoire but typically finished behind Calkins. She beat Tony Stewart, who won the 1997 IndyCar championship, once across their meetings, and also finished ahead of Michele Alboreto in their sole encounter. Her tenure in the indexed record was brief and her IndyCar entry points came with Team Scandia, a small operation that fielded established professional Vincenzo Sospiri among its drivers and scored one victory across the index.[2]

St. James' racing career extended well beyond her IndyCar appearances. She became the first woman to win Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year, competed in endurance racing at Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona where she took two class victories, and won the GTO class at the 1990 12 Hours of Sebring.
