Ralph Firman is an established professional racing driver with a rating of 5,763, a level indicating sustained success in the strongest fields outside Formula 1 itself. His career spanned from 1996 to 2013 across 54 starts in three major series, with five wins and twelve podiums. His racing was predominantly in Super GT, where he completed 37 starts between 2008 and 2013 for Autobacs Racing Team Aguri, taking four wins and ten podiums; he also competed in Formula 1 for one season in 2003 with Jordan, and earlier in his career won the Formula 3 Macau Grand Prix in 1996.[1]

Firman's decade-long presence in Super GT placed him among drivers of considerably varied calibre. He maintained a winning head-to-head record against André Couto, a FIA Silver-graded professional, but faced consistent competition from much stronger rivals. Against Ronnie Quintarelli, a three-time champion rated at elite professional level, Firman finished ahead in 15 of 36 races; against Yuji Tachikawa, another two-time champion, he prevailed in 22 of 35 shared races. He dominated semi-professional Tetsuya Tanaka, finishing ahead in 30 of 36 encounters, but regularly finished behind Juichi Wakisaka and Hiroaki Ishiura, both substantially stronger drivers at Silver and Platinum grades. His single-season Formula 1 campaign produced no points, though his Formula Nippon success prior to his works commitments suggests he was competitive in Japanese single-seater racing at the national level.[2]
