Rene Binder is an established professional racing driver competing primarily in endurance racing. He holds an FIA Gold grade in sportscar competition and races in the European Le Mans Series for Proton Competition, driving LMP2 prototypes in shared-driver cars across multiclass fields that blend amateurs with graded professionals. His career spans 15 seasons from 2012 onwards across single-seater, IndyCar road racing and endurance formats, with 151 starts to date.[1]

His single-seater years brought four wins and ten podiums across Formula V8 3.5 between 2015 and 2017, where he raced alongside established and developing professionals in a solo-driver championship. He spent six seasons in GP2 Series with Carlin and briefly contested Formula 2, establishing himself as a regular grid presence in open-wheel racing before transitioning to endurance. His move to sportscar racing began in 2018 with WEC and has since centered on the European Le Mans Series, where he has taken two wins and eight podiums across 27 starts since 2021. The Asian Le Mans Series added three podiums in five starts during 2024, both in single-class endurance fields shared with semi-professional and amateur grids.[2]

In endurance racing he regularly encounters established and professional-level drivers; he typically finishes behind the stronger runners such as Rio Haryanto, a FIA Platinum-graded driver, and Simon Trummer, a fellow Gold-graded professional. He has on occasion finished ahead of much stronger company, including two-time finishes over Alex Palou, a five-time IndyCar champion and elite professional, and Pierre Gasly, an elite professional with 193 Formula 1 starts and a title in Formula Renault Eurocup.
