Ferdinando Monfardini is an established professional driver, FIA Silver graded, who raced single-seaters and endurance cars from 2003 to 2009. He competed primarily in GP2 Series for DAMS, the team that fielded 15 of his 52 career starts across open-wheel championships and international GT racing. His most active season came in 2006, when he ran a full GP2 campaign and finished 15th in the championship standings.[1]
Monfardini's career spanned seven years in two principal disciplines. He began in International Formula 3000, taking 12 starts across 2003 and 2004 before moving to the single-seater ladder. He raced Formula V8 3.5 twice in 2005, then joined DAMS for the 2005 and 2006 GP2 seasons with 24 starts in that series. He also contested the FIA GT Championship across three years from 2007 to 2009, taking 14 starts in shared-car endurance racing. In that endurance field he was closely matched with Gianmaria Bruni, a professional who went on to win the WEC LMGTE Pro championship twice and the European Le Mans Series LMGTE once, though Monfardini more regularly finished behind Ernesto Viso, an established professional who had spent time in the same single-seater ladder. In single-seater racing, he finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton twice; Hamilton's record includes the 2006 GP2 championship and went on to eight Formula 1 titles.[2]
