Gareth Rees was an established professional racing single-seater open-wheel machinery in international and national championships during the 1990s. He made 26 starts across two series between 1993 and 1998, driving for Super Nova Racing in International Formula 3000, where he spent the bulk of his career.[1]
Rees competed in Formula 3 Macau in 1993 before moving to International Formula 3000 for four seasons from 1995 to 1998. His solitary podium came during that four-year run in the series. He finished eighth in the 1998 International Formula 3000 championship standings, the final season of his career on record.[2]
His regular opponents in International Formula 3000 included Juan Pablo Montoya, who went on to become a Formula 1 driver and later an IndyCar champion, and Jason Watt, a driver with 31 starts in the series. Rees typically finished behind both. He beat established professional Gonzalo Rodríguez three times and Fabrizio Gollin, who would later become the 2004 FIA GT champion, twice. Super Nova Racing, the team that fielded him for the majority of his record, won 17 races across the index with a driver roster that included the established professional Marcus Ericsson.
