🇺🇸 John Salerno

John Salerno is an entry-level professional competing in national solo-driver racing across multiple spec series. He races primarily in SCCA-sanctioned championships and has most recently joined the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin for JTR Motorsports Engineering, where he is currently competing in the 2026 season. His primary machinery has been spec Mazda MX-5 Miatas across SCCA Majors, SCCA Regionals and NASA events.[1]

Salerno has accumulated 59 starts across four seasons since 2023, with 11 wins and 28 podiums. His strongest performances have come in NASA competition, where he has won three of nine starts with eight podiums, and in SCCA Regionals, where he has taken four wins in 19 starts. His SCCA Majors record spans 24 starts with four wins and nine podiums. In his current Mazda MX-5 Cup campaign, he sits 22nd in the championship standings with six rounds run so far. He has one start in American Endurance Racing, a shared-car multiclass series, competing in its Class 1 category.[2]

Within his regular field of spec-class competitors, Salerno typically finishes behind Christian Sarnecki, a semi-professional who won the SCCA Regionals SM2 in 2022 and the SCCA Regionals SM in 2024 and has completed over 80 national starts. He runs closely matched with Bobby Gossett, an entry-level professional with significant experience across both SCCA championships and the Mazda MX-5 Cup. In isolated instances Salerno has finished ahead of stronger drivers competing in other series, including established professional Sebastien Bourdais and the 2025 Trans-Am TA2 champion Tristan McKee.
