🇦🇹 Patrick Friesacher

Patrick Friesacher is an established professional racing driver who competed in single-seater racing from 2000 to 2005. He raced primarily in International Formula 3000 for Coloni Motorsport, where he took 41 starts across four seasons, and made an eleven-race campaign in Formula 1 with Minardi in 2005, finishing 19th in the championship standings. He also raced in Formula 3 Macau as part of his early career.[1]

Over his six seasons on record, Friesacher took two wins and seven podiums from 55 starts. His wins came in International Formula 3000, a single-class championship that mixed amateur through professional-level drivers. He was a regular competitor against established professionals including Giorgio Pantano, a two-time champion across Formula 3000 and GP2 Series, and the 2017 World Touring Car champion Thed Bjork, whom he beat once. Pantano had beaten Friesacher nine times, showing the pair were closely matched across their shared races in the lower formulae.[2]

Friesacher spent 24 of his 55 starts with the Red Bull Junior Team, the strongest driver fielded by that outfit during the period covered by this index. His progression from Formula 3000 regular to a brief Formula 1 seat came at a point when the category drew its grids from drivers at his level and above, making his 2005 season one where he competed against the full range of international single-seater talent.
