Tony Schmidt is a German racing driver who competed in International Formula 3000, a single-class championship mixing amateur and semi-professional entrants with graded professionals. He raced for Ma-Con Engineering across three seasons from 2002 to 2004, accumulating 30 starts in the series.[1]
Schmidt finished tenth in the 2004 International Formula 3000 championship standings. His most regular opponents were established professionals Patrick Friesacher, who went on to race in Formula 1, and Enrico Toccacelo; Schmidt typically finished behind both. He beat Giorgio Pantano, the 2008 GP2 Series champion, twice across their meetings, and took a single victory over Thed Bjork, who would become the 2017 World Touring Car champion.[2]
Schmidt was an established professional in a field of mixed calibre, securing results against stronger drivers without the regularity needed to break through the upper ranks of his competition. His career in the indexed records ended in 2004.
