The FIA World Touring Car Cup was an international touring car championship that ran under those regulations before being renamed to TCR World Tour, which continues today. The series fields touring cars and draws established professionals; its current roster includes Platinum and Gold drivers such as Thed Bjork, Esteban Guerrieri and Yann Ehrlacher alongside competitive amateurs and developing drivers, making it a mixed professional and amateur field. It sits between the stronger Formula 3 Macau and the slightly weaker World Touring Car Championship in driver calibre, and functions as both a destination for drivers stepping sideways from peer touring car and sportscar championships and a pathway upward to higher-level touring and endurance racing.
