The FIA World Touring Car Cup was an international touring car championship that ran with single-make and multi-brand machinery in sprint format. It was renamed to TCR World Tour, which continues today. The field comprises established professionals; top drivers including Thed Bjork, Esteban Guerrieri and Yann Ehrlacher compete regularly. The series' strength is comparable to the World Touring Car Championship and GT World Challenge Europe, its peer series. Drivers arrive most often from the World Touring Car Championship and depart to TCR World Tour, establishing it as a point along a well-travelled professional touring car pathway rather than a destination in itself.
