The World Touring Car Championship was renamed to the World Touring Car Cup and continues under the new name. It is an international touring car series that races production-derived saloons to a single specification. The current field is professional and semi-professional. Drivers who reach it typically arrive from higher single-seater categories including Formula 3 Macau and the junior formulae. Top performers such as Thed Bjork, Esteban Guerrieri and Yann Ehrlacher contest the series regularly. The World Touring Car Cup sits between elite single-seater racing and the established endurance championships; drivers move upward to the WEC but most progression flows sideways to other touring car grids and toward longer-distance racing at lower competitive levels.
