Formula One is the world's premier open-wheel racing championship, established in 1950. The series runs single-seater formula cars in sprint racing across a global calendar of Grand Prix races on permanent circuits and street courses. Its field is generational; the strongest drivers in the world compete here, with George Russell, Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton among the current roster. Drivers arrive from the international single-seater ladder, principally Formula 3 Macau and the lower formula series, and those who depart often move into prototype and GT racing, particularly in the World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech, or into IndyCar and Formula E.
