Al Keller was an elite professional driver who competed in Formula 1 during the mid-1950s, a rating of 6,969 placing him among the world's strongest competitors at that level. His Formula 1 career with Kuzma spanned five seasons from 1955 to 1959, though it yielded only five starts and no finishes in the points; he classified in just one of those races, finishing twentieth in 1959. Despite this sparse top-line record, Keller demonstrated competitive standing by occasionally besting drivers of considerably higher rating: he finished ahead of Eddie Johnson, Johnnie Parsons, and Jimmy Bryan in individual encounters, all three established professionals rated in the 7,100s.[1]
Keller's four starts for Kurtis Kraft placed him within a team that, while productive at lower levels, did not field competitive machinery for Formula 1. His average finishing position of 12.5 across his classified starts reflects the challenge of racing equipment and entry standards of the era. Keller has since retired from active competition, leaving a brief but creditable record as a driver capable of running with the front-line professionals of his time, even if circumstances and machinery prevented him from securing results to match his demonstrated ability.
