Dino Morelli is a retired professional single-seater racing driver. He competed in International Formula 3000 between 1995 and 2001, taking 17 starts across the series for Team Astromega, a small operation that also fielded Fernando Alonso during his career. He also raced in Formula 3 Macau in 1994.[1]
Morelli's indexed record spans seven seasons and amounts to 20 starts with one podium finish. His most active period came in 2001, when he contested five rounds of International Formula 3000 and finished 18th in the championship standings. The single-seater grids he raced in mixed amateurs and semi-professionals alongside graded professionals, and his podium came in that competitive environment.[2]
Against the established professionals who formed his regular opposition, Morelli ran closely matched. He finished ahead of Giorgio Pantano, who went on to win the 2002 International Formula 3000 championship and later raced in Formula 1 and GP2, and ahead of Marc Gene, a driver with 36 Formula 1 starts and experience in the World Endurance Championship. These results were isolated rather than part of a sustained pattern of beating stronger drivers, and his career remained one of occasional rather than sustained racing in the series.
