Jack McGrath was an elite professional driver who competed in Formula 1 between 1950 and 1955, the early years of the championship. His rating of 7,196 places him among established front-runners at the sport's highest level. McGrath made six starts for Kurtis Kraft, scoring two podium finishes and averaging a seventh-place classification; he never won a Formula 1 race. His career coincided with the era when Formula 1 shared drivers with American open-wheel racing, and the rivals he faced regularly, Duane Carter, Jim Rathmann, Sam Hanks, and Tony Bettenhausen, were all drivers of similar or slightly higher professional standing.[1]

McGrath's head-to-head record against his most frequent competitors was broadly even. He finished ahead of Duane Carter, then rated the strongest of the group, in two of their five shared races; he also beat Jim Rathmann twice in three meetings and Tony Bettenhausen twice in three races. Against Sam Hanks he managed only one win in three encounters, and Jimmy Davies proved consistently faster across three races. An average finishing position of P7.2 across all his starts reflects a mid-field competitor who occasionally reached the points but could not sustain the pace of the very fastest of his era. McGrath's final race came in 1955, finishing 26th, and he has since been retired from competition.
