Javier Tarancón is a professional driver who raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup, a single-class open-wheel championship mixing amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals. He competed for three seasons from 2010 to 2012, taking 27 starts across the series for RC Formula and Tech 1 Racing.[1]
Tarancón won twice in the Eurocup and finished on the podium three times across his 27 starts. He placed 16th in the championship standings in 2012, his final season. His record put him regularly against Daniil Kvyat, a Platinum-graded professional and eventual GP3 Series champion, though Kvyat typically finished ahead of him. Tarancón also ran closely with Alex Riberas, an established professional and Gold-graded driver with substantial experience across Formula Renault, IMSA and the World Endurance Championship. Against the strongest opposition he faced, Tarancón finished ahead of Pierre Gasly, the 2013 Formula Renault Eurocup champion and later a Formula 1 regular, on three occasions, and also beat Oliver Rowland, a later champion of Formula V8 3.5 and Formula E, three times.[2]
