🇬🇧 Alex MacDowall

Alex MacDowall is a retired British racing driver who raced professional-level endurance and touring car championships as an FIA Silver graded driver. His indexed career spans from 2012 to 2022 across three series: the World Touring Car Championship, where he drove for bamboo engineering; the WEC, racing GTE Pro machinery for Aston Martin Racing; and GT World Challenge Europe with Barwell Motorsport. His sole indexed win came in the WEC in 2014 or 2015.[1]

The greater part of his record came in touring car racing. In 48 World Touring Car Championship starts across 2012 and 2013, MacDowall took three podiums and finished 11th in the championship standings in his final season. He later moved into endurance racing, starting with the WEC in 2014–2015, where he accumulated two additional podiums alongside his win across 15 starts in LMGTE Pro. His return to single-make racing came in GT World Challenge Europe from 2019 to 2022, where he took 16 starts with Barwell Motorsport in a field mixing amateurs with professionals.[2]

MacDowall's touring car period placed him against established professionals including three-time World Touring Car champion Yvan Muller, against whom he regularly finished behind, and Pepe Oriola, a regular opponent with whom he was closely matched. In endurance racing he raced among elite company; he finished ahead of Franco Colapinto, an FIA Platinum driver who later raced Formula 1, once in their shared races, and beat Maro Engel, the 2024 GT World Challenge Europe champion, three times across their meetings.
