John Taylor was a British driver who competed in Formula 1 between 1964 and 1966, making five World Championship starts for Brabham-BRM and Cooper-Ford. His career spanned two seasons, with a year away from championship racing in 1965 during which he continued in non-championship events. Taylor's sole championship point came at the French Grand Prix in 1966, where he finished in the points; he also recorded eighth-place finishes at the British and Dutch Grands Prix that same season. His average finishing position across classified starts was ninth.[1]
Taylor's competition came against some of the era's strongest drivers. He raced against three-time champions Jack Brabham, Graham Hill, and two-time champion Jim Clark, finishing behind all three in every shared race. Against the next tier of contemporary drivers, however, Taylor showed occasional competitiveness; he finished ahead of Guy Ligier twice, and beat Chris Amon, Bob Anderson, and Bob Bondurant in single races. His Brabham-BRM team proved uncompetitive in the broader context, fielding seven drivers across its history without a race win and fielding no driver stronger than Jochen Rindt.[2]
