🇬🇧 Stuart Lewis-Evans

Stuart Lewis-Evans was an established professional racing driver who competed in Formula 1 between 1957 and 1958, driving for Vanwall. His career comprised 14 Grand Prix starts across two seasons in a single-class championship that ran across 34 countries, racing against a field spanning amateur entrants through to graded professionals.[1]

Lewis-Evans took two podium finishes in his career, both within his 1958 season, and finished seventh in that year's championship standings. He was a regular opponent of Harry Schell, an established professional with whom he was closely matched, and frequently raced alongside Mike Hawthorn, the 1958 Formula 1 champion; Lewis-Evans typically finished behind Hawthorn. He beat Jack Brabham, who would go on to win three world championships, on four occasions, and outfinished Wolfgang von Trips once.[2]

Lewis-Evans drove primarily for Vanwall, which fielded him in 13 of his 14 starts. Vanwall itself won 10 races across its involvement in the index and fielded a roster including elite professionals; Hawthorn was the strongest driver in its stable during this period.
