Andy Michner was an established professional racing in IndyCar, the United States' top single-seater oval championship. He drove for Brant Racing across seven starts in 1998 and 1999, competing on ovals exclusively against a field that mixed amateur and semi-professional entrants with graded professionals.[1]

Michner's indexed career spans two seasons. He finished 25th in the 1999 IndyCar championship standings across two rounds that year, having made his debut the previous season. His background in United States Auto Club competition, where he won nineteen times and set a world speed record for Sprint Cars at Phoenix in 1996, preceded his entry to the top tier; he completed the Indy 500 Rookie Orientation Program in 1996 but chose not to qualify for that race.[2]

He raced regularly against drivers of his own level, including Scott Goodyear, with whom he was closely matched across multiple meetings, and Donnie Beechler, whom he typically finished ahead of. His strongest finish came in races featuring established professionals and former champions; he beat Tony Stewart, the 1997 IndyCar champion, three times, and Eliseo Salazar, who had raced in Formula 1 and Formula 3000, once. Brant Racing, the team that fielded him for four starts, ran without wins across the indexed record and also employed Salazar.
