Daisuke Ito was an established professional racing driver, Gold-graded under FIA sportscar classification. He spent the bulk of his career in Super GT, a national multiclass endurance championship in Japan, where he drove GT500 cars for Lexus Team Au Tom's and later Lexus Team LeMans Eneos over a decade-long span from 2008 to 2017. He also made six starts in Formula 3 Macau between 1998 and 1999, a single-driver championship mixing amateur and professional talent.[1]
Across 69 Super GT starts, Ito took three wins and 16 podiums. His best finishing position in the championship standings came in 2014, when he finished second overall. He completed 75 career starts across both series and recorded 17 podiums, with his last indexed appearance coming in 2017 when he ran one round of the Super GT season and finished 19th in the standings.[2]
Ito's record in Super GT placed him among drivers of considerable standing. He raced regularly against Tsugio Matsuda, a Platinum-graded professional and two-time GT500 champion, and against Ronnie Quintarelli, an established professional who won the GT500 class four times; the two were closely matched against both men. He finished ahead of Tadasuke Makino, an elite professional and 2020 Super GT GT500 champion with extensive experience in single-seater racing, and of Kenta Yamashita, a Platinum-graded professional and three-time GT500 champion.
