Gary Brabham was an established professional single-seater racing driver who competed in International Formula 3000 and Formula 3 Macau between 1988 and 1990. He raced for Middlebridge Racing in the top-tier junior formula, where he took two podium finishes across fifteen starts and finished tenth in the 1990 championship standings.[1]
His career saw him compete regularly against drivers who would go on to win at higher levels. He finished ahead of Mika Häkkinen once and Allan McNish twice, though he was usually outpaced by Érik Comas, the 1989 and 1990 International Formula 3000 champion, and closely matched with Damon Hill, who would later win the 1996 Formula 1 world championship. Brabham's record in a field mixing amateurs, semi-professionals and graded professionals placed him as a capable but not dominant competitor in junior single-seater racing during the late 1980s.[2]
