Franco Forini was an established professional racing single-seaters at the highest amateur and semi-professional levels. He raced in Formula 3 Macau, International Formula 3000 and Formula 1 between 1986 and 1987, making seven starts across the three championships. He drove for Scuderia Coloni in Formula 3000 and Osella in Formula 1, and spent three starts with Forti Corse in Macau.[1]
Forini's career on the indexed record spans two seasons. He made three starts in Formula 3 Macau in 1986 before stepping up to International Formula 3000, where he took two starts with little success. He then moved to Formula 1 in 1987, making two championship rounds for Osella and finishing 17th in the season standings without scoring points. His most notable result came when he beat Jean Alesi, the 1989 Formula 3000 champion who went on to race 202 Formula 1 grands prix, in three separate meetings across the series.[2]

Ivan Capelli, who won the 1986 Formula 3000 championship, was a regular opponent and the two were closely matched.
