Paul Durant was an established professional racing in IndyCar, a national single-class oval championship that fielded drivers ranging from amateur through to graded professionals in the same field. He drove for Cobb Racing and ABF Motorsports across three seasons from 1996 to 1998, accumulating five starts.[1]
Durant finished 26th in the championship standings in his final season, 1998. Across his three-year tenure he proved capable of beating stronger opposition; he finished ahead of Eliseo Salazar, a former Formula 1 driver with 53 IndyCar starts, on two occasions, and ahead of Kenny Bräck, the 1998 IndyCar champion, once. Against his most regular opponents, Tony Stewart, the 1997 IndyCar champion, and Arie Luyendyk, Durant typically finished behind them. His oval racing career ended after the 1998 season.[2]
