🇪🇸 Sergio Canamasas

Sergio Canamasas was an established professional racing driver competing in single-seater formula championships across eight seasons from 2010 to 2017. He raced primarily in GP2 Series, where he spent five seasons with Carlin and took two podium finishes across 71 starts. His career also included spells in Formula V8 3.5 and, latterly, Formula 2, accumulating 110 starts and three podiums across all three championships.[1]

Canamasas' strongest period came in his early GP2 campaigns. He was a regular against professional-graded drivers including Nathanael Berthon, with whom he remained closely matched, and consistently finished ahead of Daniel de Jong across multiple seasons. He occasionally beat drivers of significantly higher standing; he finished ahead of Charles Leclerc, the 2016 GP3 and 2017 Formula 2 champion and later a Formula 1 driver, in one meeting, and split ten races with Pierre Gasly, the 2013 Formula Renault Eurocup champion. His best championship result came in 2016 with GP2 Series, where he finished 15th in the standings. A move to Formula 2 in 2017 produced 14 starts but no podium finishes before his final indexed appearance that year.[2]

Much of his GP2 racing came with Trident, the team that fielded him for 22 of his starts and which has counted Christian Lundgaard, an elite professional, among its drivers. Operating mid-grid in fields populated by professionals and semi-professionals, Canamasas' record placed him as a capable competitor against the regular field without establishing a position at the front.
