Sergio Canamasas is a retired Spanish professional single-seater racer with a career rating of 5,241. He spent eight seasons in national and international open-wheel championships between 2010 and 2017, primarily in GP2 Series for Carlin, where he made 71 of his 110 career starts. He also raced in Formula V8 3.5 and Formula 2, driving for BVM Target and Rapax respectively.[1]
Across his career Canamasas took three podiums from 110 starts. His most significant tenure came in GP2 Series, where he ran from 2012 to 2016 and finished 15th in the final championship standings in 2016. He took both of his GP2 podiums during that span, along with one result in Formula V8 3.5. His Formula 2 campaign in 2017, his final indexed season, yielded no points from 14 starts.[2]
Canamasas raced regularly against FIA Gold professional Nathanael Berthon, a driver with 75 GP2 starts and 78 World Touring Car Cup entries; the pair finished closely matched through their shared campaigns. He typically finished ahead of FIA Silver professional Daniel de Jong, who had similarly extensive GP2 and Formula V8 3.5 experience. Against the strongest drivers who came through these series, Canamasas finished ahead of Charles Leclerc once; Leclerc went on to win the 2017 Formula 2 championship and is now a Formula 1 driver at the generational level.
