The IMSA Prototype Challenge was a single-seat prototype series that raced LMP3 sportscars in support of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The series ran multiple classes of identical or near-identical machinery and fielded a professional field with a substantial amateur contingent; Bronze-graded drivers outnumbered Silvers, and Golds were sparse. Drivers like George Kurtz and Nolan Siegel established themselves here before moving to the top IMSA ranks. The series sat between IMSA Mazda Prototype Lites and the full WeatherTech grid on the professional pyramid, serving as a critical step upward for young talent from club racing and lower-level series. Most drivers arrived from Mazda Prototype Lites or Pilot Challenge and moved on to WeatherTech or international endurance racing; some stepped sideways to GT4 America instead. The series is no longer active.
