GP3 was a sprint single-seater championship launched in 2010 as a feeder series for GP2, following Formula One and GP2 at Grand Prix meetings across Europe. It was renamed to the FIA Formula 3 Championship and continues under that name. The series fields established professionals, with former winners including George Russell and Christian Lundgaard; its median driver calibre stands near the professional level. Drivers arrive most often from Formula Renault Eurocup and peer Formula 3 series, and move on primarily to GT World Challenge Europe and the World Endurance Championship. The field sits stronger than its lower feeder series but slightly weaker than Formula 2 and the top sportscar grids, placing it as a route for drivers progressing toward international prototype and Formula racing.
