🇬🇧 Toby Sowery

Toby Sowery is an established professional racing driver, FIA Silver graded, who competes in endurance and single-seater racing. He drives LMP2 machinery for Crowdstrike Racing by APR in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and currently holds the position of reserve driver with A. J. Foyt Enterprises in IndyCar. His primary career foundation is in British single-seaters, where he spent two seasons in GB3 for Lanan Racing.[1]

Sowery's record spans ten seasons from 2015 onward across formula cars, open-wheel championships and prototype endurance racing. His strongest period came in GB3, where he took seven wins and 21 podiums from 42 starts across 2016 and 2017, establishing himself against a field of developing professionals. He moved to North American open-wheel racing in 2019 and spent five seasons in Indy NXT for HMD Motorsports, earning one win and 11 podiums across 35 starts. Since 2024 he has shifted toward endurance and prototype racing; in IMSA WeatherTech he has taken two wins and six podiums from 13 starts, and he contested the Asian Le Mans Series in 2024 with one win in five rounds. His three IndyCar starts came on road and street courses, contesting only that portion of the schedule.[2]

In GB3 and Indy NXT, where the field mixed amateurs with professionals, Sowery ran closely with Enaam Ahmed, a 2017 GB3 champion and FIA Gold driver, and usually finished ahead of Ben Hingeley, a competitor who went on to race Formula 3 European. His record includes two podium finishes ahead of Pato O'Ward, a 2018 Indy NXT champion and FIA Gold professional who has since competed in 124 IndyCar rounds; he also finished ahead of Lando Norris six times in their overlapping GB3 season, a result earned in a field that included the 2017 European Formula 3 champion and current Formula 1 champion in their junior careers.
