Super GT is an endurance sportscar racing series established in 1993. It is divided into two classes: GT500, which runs purpose-built cars from Toyota, Honda and Nissan, and GT300, which uses a mix of FIA GT3 cars and Japanese-built GT300 specials. The GT500 field is substantially stronger, composed mostly of full-time professionals at the peak of the racing pyramid, while GT300 is mixed professional and amateur; the series overall draws drivers of professional standard. The grid regularly produces drivers who move through Formula 3 competition and who progress to major international endurance championships including the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
