Super GT is Japan's premier sports car endurance racing series, begun in 1993. It runs two classes: GT500, fielding purpose-built cars from Toyota, Honda and Nissan, and GT300, mixing FIA GT3 machinery with Japanese-built GT300 specials. The field is professional throughout, dominated by Gold and Platinum-graded drivers in the top class and a strong mix of professionals and Silver-graded amateurs in GT300. Drivers including Tadasuke Makino, Sho Tsuboi and Kenta Yamashita lead its calibre. The series draws drivers from competitive single-seater backgrounds, notably Formula 3 Macau and the Formula 3 Euro Series, and feeds them toward international endurance championships including WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
