The Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin is a sprint series fielding Mazda MX-5 Cup cars. The grid draws entry-level professionals and competitive amateurs; Earl Bamber and Jesse Love are among the strongest drivers currently competing. The series sits on the ladder between club and regional racing on one side and established professional competition on the other. Drivers typically arrive from club and regional sources including NASA, SCCA events, and karting, and many move into SCCA competition or to higher series such as IMSA Pilot Challenge and WeatherTech. The field is substantially stronger than the club and regional series it primarily feeds from, though it remains weaker than the established professional competition above it.
