The FIA World Endurance Championship is an international sportscar and endurance racing series founded in 1981 and revived in its current form in 2011. The series runs three classes: Hypercars, which form the top tier and compete in prototype machinery; LMP2, a prototype class for customer teams; and LMGT3, a GT3 class. Races are contested over long distances by multi-driver teams sharing each car. The field comprises established professionals predominantly in Platinum and Gold grades, alongside a secondary tier of Silver and Bronze drivers; the Hypercar class fields the strongest competitors, including Pascal Wehrlein and Laurens Vanthoor, whilst LMGT3 runs a pro-am structure mixing professionals and amateurs.
